Anti-Bullying Freebie

Next week is Anti-bullying week in my school.  This is a district-wide annual event.  I'm part of the anti-bullying week committee in my building.  Though I missed most of this year's planning (I was out on maternity leave), I was able to attend the last meeting.  We have lots of fun activites planned for our K-5 students.  I'll be back next week to post more about how the week went.  In the meantime, I'll share my bulletin board for the week.

 I rolled with the same bulletin board as last year's.  No reason to reinvent the wheel, right?
Basically, I gave each student a boy or girl face, blank speech bubble and bully or buddy card.  I stapled a "Bully or Buddy?" card on top of the other card so viewers of our board could lift the flap to discover the answer.  Based on the card they received, students then wrote dialogue to go in the speech bubble.  {We did rough copies first of course.}

We glued the face, speech bubble and question flap onto construction paper as you can see in my model below:

Notice on the bulletin board, the paper is the other way.  My first finisher held his paper horizontally.  I was about to remind him to follow directions, when I realized I liked it better that way.  Happy mistake!

Back in the Swing

Well my first week back at school is over.  It felt really good being back in the classroom.  My kiddos are super sweet and made the transition very easy.   It's a little strange as it feels like September in February, but all good!

I'll get into the swing of posting about our classroom adventures as soon as I find my groove.  In the meantime, I'll leave you with this... a sale!

I'm participating in Super Sunday on TpT.

Thanks to Ashley Hughes for the super cute button!  My products will be on sale Sunday, 2/3 AND Monday, 2/4.

Also, a big THANK YOU to Amy from 3 Teacher Chicks.  I won her Scientific Method unit in a giveaway and couldn't be more excited to use it with my class.  It looks like it's full of great resources.

I'm hoping to get a few new products up in my store by tomorrow for the big sale.  On the agenda are some math centers including rounding, addition/subtraction review and estimating sums and differences.  These are the topics I'll be covering next week in our math review book.
I better get cracking!

The Countdown is On

It's almost time for me to return to work from my maternity leave.  I'm sad to be leaving my baby girl, but have been keeping my mind off it by creating some new resources for some motivation.

In the past, my students have been really into Groundhog Day for some reason.  I used that interest and the inspiration from Little Red's Schoolhouse totally adorable freebie groundhog graphics to create this research project.

I found some groundhog and Groundhog Day-related articles, created differentiated comprehension questions for each article.

There is also a writing task which prompts students to develop their own opinion about whether or not groundhogs can predict the arrival of spring.

So there it is, my first week back to work in reading and writing.  It makes going back to work a LOT less intimidating.

If you think your students would like this project, find it on my TpT store here.  I will send a free copy to the first commenter on this post.  {Please leave your email address.}
